Stainless Steel Bollards - What's The Difference Between 304 and 316 Stainless Steel
The great thing about Stainless Steel Bollards is the level of aesthetics you can achieve while still meeting Australian and design standards, thus making Stainless Steel Bollards a fantastic choice.
304 Stainless Steel also has a high resistance to rust, it withstands corrosion and a vast range of oxidizing acids. Mostly, therefore, Stainless Steel is used in prep, kitchen and food areas. 304 Stainless Steel is open to corrosion from chloride solution – mostly areas with high amounts of sodium chloride. Sodium chloride ions create localised areas of corrosion which is often referred to as pitting, which ultimately spread under protective chromium barriers to compromise structures - Area’s with that have a ppm of 25 sodium chloride can begin to have a corrosive effect.

316 grade is the most common form of stainless steel and what we are TKO Bollards by default stock (if you’re wanting 304 please let us know and we can make to order) 316 Stainless Steel has pretty much the same mechanical and physical properties as 304 stainless steel and contains a similar material make up.
The difference being that 316 stainless steel has about 3 percent molybdenum, which increases corrosion resistance so if you’re installing or supplying to a coastal location 316 is your go-to option.
316 Stainless Steel is particularly good against chlorides and other industrial solvents. 316 stainless steel is commonly used in many industrial applications involving processing chemicals, as well as high-saline environments such as coastal regions and outdoor areas where de-icing salts are common. Due to its non-reactive qualities, 316 stainless steel is also used in the manufacture of medical surgical instruments.
